At 1435 hours Truck 1 was dispatched to 4003 Volta St in Co 55's first due for the house fire. Engine 551 arrived with fire showing from the second floor of a 2 story residential house. Truck 1 arrived and assumed the first due responsibilities and started the search, threw 6 ground ladders and cut the roof. Truck 1 encountered heavy fire on the second floor as Engine 551 was making the knock on the fire. Both primary and secondary searches were negative and extension was limited to the walls on the second floor. Truck 1 remained on scene for overhaul and investigators until 1621 hours.

At 2101 hours, Truck 1 was dispatched to 506 Chillum Rd for the apartment fire. Engine 441 arrived with fire showing and numerous reports of people trapped. Truck 1 arrived shortly after as the first due Truck. The crew split up searching the fire floor and the floor above where the occupants were reported trapped. Searches came up negative, as well as the extension. Truck 1 remained on scene for overhaul and cleared at 2250 hours.
Shortly after clearing the apartment fire, Truck 1 was dispatched to the area of 25th Ave and Judson Street for the building fire. Engine 343 arrived in the rear of a strip mall a shed attached to the mall on fire. Truck 1 arrived and went to working opening up and forcing entry to the shopping mall. Extension was negative and crews remained on scene for lighting and the investigators. Truck 1 cleared at 0717 hours. |

Squad 1 was dispatched to 2925 Kenilworth Ave for the building fire. Units from Company 9 arrived with smoke showing from a large warehouse. Squad 1 arrived and established the RIT. The fire was knocked quickly, and companies were released in little of an hour. Squad 1 cleared at 0602 hours.
On the 23rd, at 1320 hours Squad 1 was dispatched to 1905 Erie St in 34’s first due for the apartment fire. Engine 343 arrived to find nothing showing, but further investigation found a room off on the second floor. Squad 1 was the fourth arriving unit and was sent to search the fire apartment and the floor above. Searches were negative and Squad 1 cleared at 1343 hours. |

At 1423 hours, Squad 1 along with the Ambulance were dispatched to the intersection of 410 and Queens Chapel Rd for an accident with entrapment. Upon arrival crews encountered a 2 vehicle accident with confirmed entrapment from the vehicle that rolled over. The Squad crew stabilized, took the glass, and began opening up the driver side. In order to remove the patient the driver side door was removed. The Squad cleared at 1449 hours while the Ambulance transported the patient to the local trauma unit.

At 1013 hours, Engine 12 and Truck 1 were dispatched to 5817 31st Pl for the house fire. Engine 12 and Truck 1 arrived with smoke showing from a 2 story residential. The Engine crew stretched the line while the Truck crew started the searches. Fire was found running the wall on side Delta from the basement level. Truck 1 started to open up the basement and found fire running the joists while Engine 12 made a quick knock of the fire.
Engine 441 and Truck 9 opened up the outside and held the extension in check. Due to the extensive overhaul, the units remained on scene for over an hour opening up the walls in the basement and first floor. Searches were negative and extension was held to the first floor. Engine 12 and Truck 1 cleared at 1132 hours.

At 1849 hours Rescue Squad 1 was dispatched to 1014 Ruatan St in Montgomery County for the house fire. The first arriving units on scene found a working kitchen fire in a duplex. Squad 1 arrived and was put to working checking the exposure, and controlling the utilities. Searches were negative and the Squad was put in service at 1920 hours.

Just after 2300 hours, Rescue Squad 1 was requested by Montgomery County for the building fire. First arriving units reported fire showing extending to the roof. Squad 1 arrived moments later and gained entry to Division 2 via ground ladder. The crew worked on Division 2 before making their way into the attic. Squad 1's crew extinguished the majority of remaining fire in the roof and peak areas. The unit was ready for service just before 0100 hours |

At 1709 hours Rescue Squad 1 was dispatched for the vehicle accident with possibly 3 people trapped at Chillum and Queens Chapel Rd. Squad 1 arrived to find a pickup truck on it’s side with two people trapped. Squad 1’s crew quickly set up 4 struts for stabilization and removed the glass. In order to extricate the trapped occupants the roof was removed and the patients were back boarded, collared and transported to the trauma center. Squad 1 had both patients extricated well under 10 minutes, and cleared at 1735 hours

At 1623hrs Engine 12 and Squad 1 were dispatched for the apartment fire at 2718 Kirkwood Place in the HVFD's first due.
Units arrived to find smoke showing from the roof. While staffing was light for the Engine crew with two men, the crew laid out and pulled the 400ft attack line and stretched it to the 3rd floor, while the Squad opened up the 3rd floor ceiling and the vent hatch to the roof.
Crews found roof membrane on fire and began to open it up. Truck 9 arrived and went to work opening up the roof while the Engine Company extinguished the fire. Units from Company 1 cleared at 1717hrs.

At 0630hrs, Engine 12 and Squad 1 were dispatched to 4811 Longfellow St in Co.7’s first due for the house fire.
As units from Company 1 approached the scene; a large column of smoke could be seen in the area. As Engine 72 laid out, Squad 1 was first arriving to find a 3-story multi-family dwelling with fire in the rear.
Although the Squad was first arriving, command put the Squad as RIT. Engine 11 stretched a backup line to the second floor where the encountered fire in the walls going to the third floor and roof line.
With limited manpower and Truck 9 committed to the interior and the roof, Squad 1 began opening up the heavily boarded up dwelling. Multiple saws were used to cut open door and windows that were boarded up. Squad 1 was eventually requested to open up the third floor while Engine 11 mopped up. Units cleared at 0801hrs. |

At 0530 hours the Hyattsville Bunkroom along with members of Company 9 met up to play a bone breaking game of tackle football at Magruder Park. With the rigs parked in the parking lot ready for the next run crews headed to the field to play some football. Crews played for over two hours with many massive hits, a bloody nose, and a few jammed fingers as well as many going home with many muscle aches. Hyattsville led the whole game and ended up winning by 3 touchdowns. Good camaraderie between these two teams led to a great night of football.
Word on the street Moe AKA the “tank” wants to transfer to Co 1.!
Injury Report:
Sgt. Butler- Sore back and two jammed fingers
FF. Westerbeck- Injured elbow and sore allover
FF. McCarthy- 2 injured fingers and a possible concussion when the “tank” landed on his head
FF. Hogan- Sore neck
FF. Bailey- injured shoulder
FF. Wierzbolowciz- Swollen cheek bone and unable to put weight on right leg
Unfortunately following the game Company 1 ran 7 runs in 10 hours leaving the guys without much needed rest!

At 0723 hours a house fire was put out in the first due at 5404 37th Ave. With Squad 1 on a wreck on Queens Chapel Rd, no units from 1 were dispatched because of staffing. However since many of the bunkroom members were present for early morning training, the Engine marked up on the assignment.
Engine 12 arrived to find smoke showing from a 2 story residential with an occupant trapped on the second banging on the window to get out. The lineman and officer stretched the line while the Engine driver through a ladder to the second floor to provide egress for the trapped occupant.
By the time the window was taken, the fire already consumed half the room and the occupant ended up jumping on the to the 1st floor roof. The Squad crew preformed searches and overhaul with Truck 9 while the Squad driver brought the occupant down the ladder on side Bravo. The fire was knocked quickly and searches were negative. Units from 1 and 9 remained for investigations and cleared at 0854 hours. |

At 2347 hours Truck 1 was dispatched to Wake Forest Dr in Company 12’s first due for the house fire. Units from 12 arrived with heavy fire showing from a 2 story house. Truck 1 arrived and went to work forcing entry and conducting a primary ahead of the first hose line. Primary and Secondary searches proved negative while the fire was being knocked. The outside team placed multiple ladders and opened the roof up. Truck 1 opened up the basement and first floor and remained on scene for lighting and overhaul. Truck 1 cleared at 0224 hours.

At 2227 hours Engine 12 and Ambulance 19 were dispatched for a shooting with County Police at 3417 Toledo Terrace. While units were staging for County Police to secure the scene, multiple gun shots were heard coming from the apartment complex.

On August 3rd, at 0219 hours, Engine 12 was dispatched for a shooting with Hyattsville City PD at 5902 31st Ave. Units staged until the scene was secure by PD. One patient was shot twice in the back and was packaged by units on scene and transported to the trauma center. Engine 12 cleared at 0312hrs. Following the shooting and as the day continued, units from Company 1 responded on numerous calls including 3 box alarms, 2 street alarms, and six wrecks totally 20 calls in less than 20hrs. |

At 1850 hours, Truck 1 was dispatched to 5023 Riverdale Rd for the apartment fire. Engine 72 arrived with nothing evident while Truck 1 took position on side Alpha. After further investigation Engine 72 and Truck 1 found a small kitchen fire on the first floor with a heavy smoke condition. The fire was contained to the cabinets and ceiling, and the searches were negative. Truck 1 remained on scene with Truck 9 for ventilation of the high-rise. |

On July 29th at 1046 hours, Squad 1 was alerted to respond to Rte 201 and Edmondston Rd for the report of one possibly trapped. The Squad went enroute with 6 and went to work on arrival to extricate 1. Squad 1 cleared at 1132 hours.
On July 31st at 0756 hours, Squad 1 was dispatched to John Hanson Hwy at the outer loop of the Capital Beltway for one off the roadway into a tree. E833 arrived on scene with one into the woods and pinned. Squad 1 arrived and went to work with a crew of 3. With the assistance of E828 clearing several trees, the Squad crew was able to remove the doors and perform a dash roll.

With the Engine out of service, Truck 1 was alerted for the first due house fire at 1141 hours in the area of 38th Ave and Kennedy St. Truck 1 went enroute with 6 and arrived with smoke showing from side Charlie of a 1 ½ story house. The inside crew forced entry and performed searches, locating the fire in a rear bedroom and finding both primary and secondary searches negative. The outside crew threw 4 ground ladders, vented windows, and then went to the roof to open up. All units returned to service at 1350 hours. |

On the 19th, at 1229 hours Truck 1 was dispatched to 7408 17th Ave in Co. 34’s first due for the house fire. Engine 343 arrived with light smoke showing. Truck 1 arrived quickly thereafter and began its searches. The fire was contained a few kitchen cabinets and a wall. Searches were negative and Truck 1 opened up and set up fans. Truck 1 cleared at 1316 hours.
On the 18th, at 0953 hours Truck 1 was dispatched to 2108 Saranac St in Co. 34’s first due for the house fire. Engine 343 arrived to find heavy smoke showing from a 1 story house. Crews found a dishwasher on fire in the kitchen with extension to the walls and cabinets. The Truck opened up and searches came up negative. Truck 1 cleared at 1136 hours. |
