At 1511 hours, units were dispatched to 5714 16th Avenue for the apartment fire. Truck 1 responded with 7 and arrived on scene as the first due special service. Truck 1 split crews with the exterior crew throwing over 200' of ground ladders while the interior crew opened up, ventilated and overhauled the fire apartment. Truck 1 cleared at 1644 hours. |

At 0833 hours, Truck 1 was dispatched to 6303 58th Avenue in Riverdale Heights. Units arrived on scene with fire showing. Truck 1 arrived as the 2nd due special service and went to work laddering the house, venting and opening up for the engine crew on division 2. During searches, the crew found a woman who had unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. As a result of the cluttered condition of the house, the crew was on scene until 1500 hours performing extensive overhaul as well as helping with the fire investigation. |

At 1710 hours Squad 1 was alerted for 1 trapped in Company 9's area at Tanglewood Dr. and Rt. 1. Upon arrival the squad went to work stabilizing, taking glass, removing both doors and the roof. Squad 1 cleared at 1820 hours. Additional photos with the story. |

At 0348 hours, Truck 1 was alerted for a house on fire at 5405 Farragut St in Co. 9's area. Units from Bladensburg arrived reporting a working fire in the basement. Truck 1 assuming second-due responsibilities and conducted a search of the first and second floors, as well as ventilated and threw numerous ground ladders. The crew also assisted with lighting and overhaul in the basement, and cleared about an hour later.
Later that morning the box was sounded for 1512 Timber Ridge Lane in Co. 44's area. With company 44 out of service for training, Engine 12 was first due. Arriving with nothing evident, the crew stretched a line to the third floor to find an apartment banked down with smoke. The small fire was quickly extinguished. The primary search was completed and ventilated prior to a majority of the balance of the box alarm's arrival. Engine 12 returned to service at 1210 after overhaul and investigation.

At 0011 hours, PSC sounded the box for 9150 Edmonston Road in the Spring Hill Lake section of Berwyn Heights. Units arrived on scene with smoke showing from the third floor of a three story garden style apartment. As the crews started opening up they found heavy fire in all of the void spaces, pipe chases and walls on all three floors. Command then requested a fire task force bringing Truck 1, which had been transferred to Company 14. As Truck 1 arrived on scene the crew was tasked with completing secondary searches of the fire apartment, securing utilities and assisting in opening up and extinguishing the fire. The fire eventually went to a 3rd alarm which also brought Engine 11 to the scene. The units from Company 1 remained on scene until 0230 hours.
At 0930, hours PSC sounded yet another box to the Spring Hill Lake complex, this time at 9118 Edmonston Road. First arriving units found fire in the electrical panel with extension to the floors above. Command quickly requested a second alarm, bringing Truck 1 to the scene. Once again the crew from Truck 1 assisted with opening up the floors directly above the original fire room and assisting with utility control. The units cleared shortly after 1200 hours.

At 1337 hours, the box was sounded for the house fire at 4221 Cottage Terrace in 55's area. Upon arrival, E551 advised fire showing and forced entry to the house. Truck 1 arrived as the first special service on scene behind units from 55 and 9 and immediately went to work. The Truck split crews with one crew opening up in support of the attack crews and the other crew throwing ladders. The crew also conducted the primary search which proved negative. Truck 1 cleared at 1513 hours.
Friday evening, at 2230 hours, the bells sounded for Truck 1 to respond for the box at 54th Avenue and Riverdale Rd for a house fire. Engine 71 went on scene with fire showing from the third floor. Truck 1 arrived as the second due truck and positioned on side C, D of the fire building. The crew went to work opening the vacant building up for the engine companies, while the stick was extended to the 3rd floor to gain access to the upper floor. Along with the officer, the bars man and tiller man opened up the 2nd, 3rd and attic of the dwelling, while the outside team took bars off windows and put up 175ft of ground ladders. Truck 1 cleared at 1250 hours

Just prior to 1500 hours, Truck 1 was alerted to respond as the 1st Due special service for the building fire at 7900 New Riggs Road in 34's area. Upon E343's arrival, they immediately called for the second alarm as they had 2 apartments fully involved. Truck 1 arrived on scene shortly after 343 and immediately went to work splitting the crew of 8 to perform interior and exterior assignments.

At 1449 hours, the box was struck for an apartment fire at 8000 Boteler Lane in Branchville’s first due. Engine 11 and Rescue Squad 1 responded with 12. While units from 1 were enroute, Chief 14 arrived on scene with nothing showing.
After further investigation, Chief 14 reported a unit off on the first floor and requested an additional Engine and Truck for the RIT assignment. On arrival, Engine 11 stretched a back-up line and the Squad was assigned the search group. The Squad crew performed a search of fire apartment, other units on the fire floor and the floor above. The Engine and Squad cleared at 1529 hours. |

At 0140 hours, the box was struck for the apartment fire at 4330 Hartwick Rd. Chief 1, Engine 11, Rescue Squad 1 and Truck 1 responded. While this call proved to be a false alarm, it was the first run of the new Truck 1. Also, this was the exact same address that our last Truck ran as its first call.
At 1851 hours, Chief 1, Engine 11 and Truck 1 responded for the apartment fire at 7904 15th Avenue in Chillum-Adelphi's first due. While initially thought to be a false alarm, communications gave a corrected address of 7924 15th Avenue which proved to be a mattress on fire in a room. Units from 1 went to work with other units on scene to bring the fire under control. Units from 1 cleared the scene at 2028 hours. Coincidentally, the 1996 Pierce Tiller truck ran its first fire to 15th Avenue.

At 1829 hours tonight, the HVFD proudly placed its new ladder truck in service.
Truck 1 is a 2006 Seagrave 100’ tractor drawn aerial ladder. The vehicle is built on the Seagrave Marauder chassis, and includes seating for eight personnel.
The vehicle was designed to serve the needs of a busy Truck Company, serving a dense suburban/metropolitan area. Keeping the vehicle simple and basic were the two fundamentals maintained during the design process.

Nearly 200 members of the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department, City of Hyattsville Police Department, local government representatives, friends and invited guests attended the annual Hyattsville Public Safety Awards Banquet.
The annual joint awards program presents awards to both members of the volunteer fire department and city police for accomplishments in the previous year.

At 1422 Hours, Rescue Squad 1 was alerted for one overturned and trapped on Sargent Rd / Torrey Pl in Co. 44’s area. PE441 arrived on scene confirming one trapped with a trauma code. Upon arrival the crew found one on its side with extensive intrusion on the passenger side (side on the ground) and went to work stabilizing utilizing the Paratech struts and cribbing to secure the vehicle. Once stabilized, the roof was cut and flapped to allow access to the patient. From arrival to removal time was 12 minutes. |

Just after 8 a.m., Engine 11 was dispatched to the 5600 blk of 16th Ave for an Apartment Fire. As the Engine approached the scene with 4 personnel, heavy smoke could be seen coming across Chillum Road. Engine 441 reported a working fire in apartment 104. |

At 2235 hours, E11 and RS1 were alerted to the apartment fire at 5403 Hamilton St. in Co. 9's first due. E11 arrived 4th due and secured a water supply and staged while Squad 1 assumed first due responsibilities per command. Upon entry to the second floor apartment, it was apparent there was only a room off. The squad with 6 went to work opening up, ventilating, and providing lights while E92 wet down the apartment. Both E11 and RS1 were clear of the scene at 2259 hours. |

At 1708 hours, Engine 11 and Rescue Squad 1 were alerted to the house fire at 1622 Drexel Street in Co 34's first due. The squad was the first special service on scene and per command assumed first due special service responsibilities performing the primary search with a reported child missing and then opening up for 34's line. The majority of the fire was in one room on the second floor but there was extension throughout the attic and knee walls. Engine 11 secured a secondary water source and was then assigned part of the RIT group with all three special services being utilized to open up and ventilate. |

At 2340 hours, A17 and Medic 92 were alerted for the unresponsive person at 3320 Toledo Place with PGPD already on scene. Upon arrival it was apparent that the patient had been shot in the chest and E11 was requested to the scene for assistance. EMS crews transported the patient to Medstar Trauma where the patient was Priority 4 upon arrival. Units went in service at 0101 hours.

At 1213 hours, RS1 dispatched on the first alarm to Montgomery County for a house fire in Hillendale's first due just off of New Hampshire Ave. The Squad responded from quarters with 4 and was assigned as an attack group by Command. Pulling a 2.5" attack line off of E921, the Squad crew pushed through the house and helped extinguish much of the fire up in the attic. The fire ended up at 2 alarms due to exposures and serious extension throughout the house. The squad was in service around 1400 hours. |

At 0230 hours, RS1 and C1A were alerted for the Personal Injury Accident with one trapped at the intersection of Adelphi Road and University Blvd in Co 12's first due. Squad 1 arrived first on scene with a driver trapped in a broadsided vehicle. The Squad with 6 went to work removing both doors and the B post and then assisted EMS crews packaging the patient. The Squad returned to service at 0300 hours. |

At 2211 hours, Public Safety Communications sounded the box for a reported basement fire at 5027 36th Place in Hyattsville's first due. Both the Rescue Squad and Engine (from College Park) responded. Rescue Squad 1 was the first unit on scene reporting a working fire in the basement.
The crew from the Rescue Squad performed a quick primary search, which proved negative, and then assited Bladensburg with advancing a hoseline into the basement to extinguish the fire. Engine 12's crew pulled a back-up line through the back door and assisted with checking for extension. Units from Hyattsville cleared in a little less than two hours. An electric space heater was deemed the cause of this fire. Chief 1A had the command and thanks to B/C 4 Folks for his assistance on the fireground.

Around 2345 hours, Engine 12 was dispatched to 3200 Queens Chapel Rd to check on the welfare with County Police. While enroute, Communications advised they were receiving calls for a reported a car into the building. Engine 12 arrived on scene with a confirmed car into the building leaking gas with a partially ruptured home heating oil tank. |
