At 0630hrs, Engine 12 and Squad 1 were dispatched to 4811 Longfellow St in Co.7’s first due for the house fire.

As units from Company 1 approached the scene; a large column of smoke could be seen in the area. As Engine 72 laid out, Squad 1 was first arriving to find a 3-story multi-family dwelling with fire in the rear.

Although the Squad was first arriving, command put the Squad as RIT. Engine 11 stretched a backup line to the second floor where the encountered fire in the walls going to the third floor and roof line.

With limited manpower and Truck 9 committed to the interior and the roof, Squad 1 began opening up the heavily boarded up dwelling. Multiple saws were used to cut open door and windows that were boarded up. Squad 1 was eventually requested to open up the third floor while Engine 11 mopped up. Units cleared at 0801hrs.
