Two people were rescued, including an unconscious child, from an apartment on Toledo Place Friday morning.

Engine 801 arrived as first due to find fire in the living room of apartment 203, a third floor unit in a garden-style apartment with a terrace level. The two victims were rescued by the crew from Engine 801 and given to awaiting EMS units.

HVFD crews reported the picture window of the apartment had vented itself, reducing quite a bit of the intensity of the fire when crews arrived, and the fire burning contents of the living room and surrounding area.

A precautionary second alarm was sounded including additional EMS units. The fire operations went smoothly and the fire was quickly contained, with the second alarm units being returned after a short time.

EMS crews reportedly performed CPR on the child enroute to the hospital, getting a pulse back before arriving there. The man suffered third-degree burns to 80% of his both.
