At 2211 hours, Public Safety Communications sounded the box for a reported basement fire at 5027 36th Place in Hyattsville's first due. Both the Rescue Squad and Engine (from College Park) responded. Rescue Squad 1 was the first unit on scene reporting a working fire in the basement.

The crew from the Rescue Squad performed a quick primary search, which proved negative, and then assited Bladensburg with advancing a hoseline into the basement to extinguish the fire. Engine 12's crew pulled a back-up line through the back door and assisted with checking for extension. Units from Hyattsville cleared in a little less than two hours. An electric space heater was deemed the cause of this fire. Chief 1A had the command and thanks to B/C 4 Folks for his assistance on the fireground.
