Units from Station 34, Chillum-Adelphi, arrived within two minutes reporting heavy fire conditions. The fire involved the pool house and storage facility at the Adelphi Swim Club. Within 10 minutes, Chief 12a -- who initially had command -- ordered exterior operations only.

Engine 12 and Truck 1 responded from the HVFD. Truck 1, along with Trucks 12 and 92, set up ladder pipe operations to assist in dousing the blaze. Engine 12 took a hydrant on Riggs Road, supplying Engine 441 (Chillum), which had laid large diameter hose into the scene. Engine 12's crew then was among several handline crews.

The fire took about 90 minutes to extinguish and units from the HVFD cleared the scene after about three hours. The last fire unit left the scene shortly after 2230.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Ten personnel from Station 1 responded. Chief 1 had the command for most of the incident, acting as the county's Volunteer Deputy. Engine Co's 33 (Kentland) & 9 (Bladensburg) were transferred to Station 1 during the incident
