The Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department,
located just three miles from Washington, DC, is
celebrating 108 years
of fire, rescue and EMS service to the community it serves. Annually, the HVFD responds to more than 4,000 calls for help. Prince George's County Company
1, the
HVFD has more than 60 active members, including 12 live-in college
students, complemented by career staff. Our apparatus include two
Class A
pumpers, a 100' aerial ladder truck, a heavy duty
rescue squad and a
basic life support ambulance. Read on and learn about our department,
members and activities. We hope to make this one of the best Volunteer
Fire Department sites on the web!

CITIZEN CPR PROGRAM
The Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department, in conjunction with the city of
Hyattsville and the Prince George's County Fire Department, offers free CPR
training to the citizens of Prince Georges county, on the third Sunday of
every month. Adult one-rescuer classes start at 9:00am and last for
approximately three hours. Space is limited and registration is available
on a first come, first served basis by calling the city of Hyattsville at

HVFD RAISES MONEY FOR CARLIE At a boot drive on Saturday, July 20,
members of the HVFD raised nearly $4,000 to help young Carlie Hogarth
pay for a liver transplant and medical expenses that follow. It was the
second boot drive of the year. So far, the HVFD has raised nearly
$35,000 to help the 2-year-old. For more information, see Community rallies to save child
TRUCK SOLD Truck 1, the 1974 Seagrave 100' aerial that was
formerly one of the busiest ladder trucks in the nation in New York
City, was sold recently to the Riviera Beach VFD in Anne Arundel County,
Md. It will be replaced in October by a new Pierce Lance tiller truck.
