Tree Worker Pinned
April 1998
From the HVFD Recent Incidents
In the very early morning hours an Asplundh tree/utility worker was seriously injured in an accident on University Boulevard near Tulane Drive in Adelphi. The worker was standing to the rear of his pick up truck and between the truck and a traffic arrow sign that the pick-up was pulling when a driver slammed into the back of the sign. The worker's legs were pushed into the bumper area and severely pinned. The rescue squad stabilized the vehicle and waiting while paramedics administered drugs to the victim before releiving the pressure of the pin. The victim was extricated shortly after he was medically stabilized. He suffered two fractured hips and at least one fractured leg as a result of his injuries. Police were investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the crash. Engine 341, Ambulance 348, Rescue Squad 1 and Medic 8 were on the scene.
