When major multiple-alarm fires or other serious incidents happen in the fire service, other stations that are not dispatched to the call have units transferred to stations that are so that the level of fire and rescue service in the area is not compromised. Here, HVFD Truck 1 sits at the Kentland fire station in Landover while they handled a second-alarm apartment fire. Two other fire crews and an ambulance crew were left back at our station in Hyattsville to ensure that our area was well protected also. The HVFD typically handles a transfer two to four times each month on average. Photo by Dave J. Iannone |
