1994 Pierce Lance Heavy Rescue
Rescue Squad One was placed in service in 1994 as Metro Support Unit One,
available to respond on serious multiple-alarm fires, Metrorail and train
accidents, vehicle crashes and other specialized rescue calls. A
few months after completing a 90-day trial program, MSU1 became Rescue
Squad One, becoming the county's 10th heavy rescue
Squad One is equipped with a full complement of Amkus
rescue tools, cribbing, breathing air support, firefighting equipment,
Metro response tools, high-angle rescue equipment and much more
Squad One, which responds to calls in both PG and Montgomery County,
is expected to be among the county's busiest, responding to numerous
working fires, extrications and serious incidents.
