Rescue Squad 1 is a 2009 Pierce Arrow XT Heavy Rescue

Rescue Squad 1 is powered by a Caterpillar C13, 525 horsepower diesel engine with an Allison Gen IV EVS 4000P 6 speed automatic transmission; the unit features an Antilock Braking System (ABS) and an Automatic Traction Control System (ATC) for added safety as well as a 22,800lb front and 40,000lb tandem real axle with air ride suspension.

The vehicle is 8’ 4” wide, 10’ 10” tall and 35’ 10 ¼ “ long with a wheel base of 211” and has a GVWR of 62,800lbs.

The Rescue Squad is equipped with a Will-Burt 6,000-watt light tower and 11,000 watts of body lighting powered by Harrison 25,000-watt hydraulic generator. The unit has a 12,000lb. front mounted winch and an 8000lb. portable winch.

The heart of the Rescue Squad is an Amkus Ultimate Hydraulic Rescue Tool System with 4 125’ hose reels and a full compliment of rescue tools, as well as all of the equipment necessary for vehicle extrication, most rescue situations as well as firefighting.

The unit is painted in traditional Hyattsville Fire Department colors, red with a large white stripe, 2 Mars 888 lights, a Roto-Ray, twin bumper red rotating lights and an all LED warning light package. The unit was funded in part through an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG).
